January/February 2024 Social Highlights

South West Rocks

We started 2024 with a visit to South West Rocks, known as a haven for nature-lovers but also one of our favourite spots! We were indulged with a bit of sightseeing, including the famous Trial Bay Gaol.

We concluded our visit with a great lunch at the Riverside Tavern located on the banks of the Macleay River. Thank you, Peter and staff for welcoming us and looking after us!

Due to the very high demand, we ended up with 6 visits throughout Jan-Feb, each visit had all the ingredients for a perfect day out!

Yarrila Place

We paid a few visits to Yarrila Place. Where we all met at the new 2D Coffee House, a convenient spot for morning tea, prior to our guided tour.

We met Emma, who gave us a fantastic tour of Yarrila Place (meaning illuminate / brighten / light up). We were able to visit the Arts Gallery and Museum, boasting five exhibition spaces. The centrepiece is 'Yaamanga Around here', a permanent exhibition full of local history with captivating displays of objects, artworks and stories. The other four exhibition spaces come alive with new rotating exhibitions.

We then visited the new Harry Bailey Memorial Library, comprised of three levels, and had a peak at the Council Chambers.

Emma’s expertise was marvellous, we thoroughly enjoyed our visits. Thank you again Emma for your time and attention!

We concluded our visits with lunch at Jetty Beach House.

CATS – The Musical

January was Showtime! Our first Musical for the year Cats! Presented by the Naidu Theatre Company. We all really enjoyed our Matinee at the Jetty Theatre. Loved all the cats! On and off the stage and all around us! The make up, the costumes, music and sets were awesome.

Congratulations to all the cast, the show was amazing! And a special thank you to the team of volunteers at the Theatre who always makes us feel so welcome!!

First Trivia and Movie Morning for 2024

Our fist Trivia for 2024, saw quite a few new faces. They all came with their thinking caps on! And there were quite a few winners! Everyone seemed to be well entertained.

We also presented our first movie with a record crowd. A lot of laughter and a wonderful Valentine’s Lunch at the Chill and Chat Café was enjoyed by all. Thank you, Pam and staff will see you next month!

Woolgoolga

Several times we visited Woolgoolga which has the largest Sikh/Punjabi population in Australia. We revisited Gurudwara the First Sikh Temple of Australia, we learnt a little of their religion and philosophy and were invited for a simple traditional lunch.

Thank you all at the Temple and the Food Hall for making us feel so welcomed.

Be Connected

During the month of February, we attended a few sessions on the basics of using mobile phones as well as the basics of the internet. The main topic was taking care to avoid scams and other traps on our phones and computers.

Thank you, Liz, Lockie and Jack at the Education Centre.

Phoenix Cafe Bowraville

It was a first experience for many at Ceramics, and we really enjoyed it! What a great morning we had at the Phoenix Café in Bowraville with Moni the ceramics master! Followed by a charming light lunch.

Thank you, Ale and team for making it possible for us. Looking forward to seeing our final masterpieces, and to many more visits!
